Aryballos-lekythos

 

Attica, Greece, last quarter of 5th century BCE

Site: Panticapaeum (Kerch)

 

Ceramic clay. Black glazed bulbous aryballos-lekythos with vertical reeding. The raised ribs terminate in arches and a band of stamped meandres in the upper and lower sections. The reeding was emphasised with additional grooves made into the lustre after the lekythos was fired.
